Skin Needling

As we age, the production of collagen and elastin in our skin naturally declines, leading to sagging, wrinkles, and hollow areas. Fortunately, our skin has an impressive self-rejuvenating ability to repair and restore collagen, which helps reduce the appearance of acne scars, pigmentation, and other imperfections.

Skin needling is a highly effective treatment that stimulates this natural healing process, using the Dermal Pen pro - a precision device with fine needles that create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This process encourages collagen production and enhances the absorption of active ingredients, which can penetrate up to 300% deeper. The Dermal Pen Pro offers adjustable needle depths, allowing the treatment to be customised to your specific skin concerns. As your skin heals, it forms new tissue, resulting in a smoother, firmer, and more youthful complexion.

Skin needling is one of our favourite treatments for achieving smoother, firmer, healthier-looking skin. By creating tiny controlled micro-channels in the skin, this treatment helps stimulate your natural collagen and elastin production — encouraging your skin to repair, renew, and glow from within.

Skin needling can help improve the appearance of:

Acne scarring
Enlarged pores
Fine lines and wrinkles
Uneven skin texture
Pigmentation and sun damage
Dull, tired-looking skin
Loss of firmness and elasticity
Stretch marks and body scarring
Post-breakout marks and congestion

This treatment is perfect for anyone wanting to refine their skin, boost collagen, improve texture, and achieve that fresh, radiant Melbourne Skin glow.

  • Keloid Scars

  • Medications (please consult with your therapist before booking)

Skin needling is generally well-tolerated, with minimal discomfort. Compared to skin rollers, our microneedling offers a more comfortable experience, and numbing cream can be applied to further reduce any sensation during the treatment.

Skin needling is a safe procedure with minimal risks. Scarring and infections are rare when pre- and post-care instructions are followed carefully.

After your treatment, it's normal for your skin to look pink to red and feel warm or sunburnt. This typically settles within 24–48 hours, depending on the intensity of your treatment.

Around days 3–5, your skin may feel tight, dry, and begin to lightly flake as fresh, healthy skin cells emerge. If your treatment includes an Environ Peel, you can expect more noticeable peeling as part of the renewal process.

You may also experience a small breakout or temporary congestion as impurities are brought to the surface. While this can be unexpected, it's a normal part of the skin's healing and rejuvenation process and should resolve as your complexion continues to improve.

For the best clinical outcomes, a course of skin needling treatments every 4–6 weeks is recommended. Treatments should be scheduled no sooner than 28 days apart to allow the skin sufficient time to heal, regenerate, and produce new collagen.

The total number of treatments required will depend on your individual skin concerns and desired results. Your clinician will create a personalised treatment plan based on your skin assessment.

Once your treatment goals have been achieved, we recommend maintenance treatments every 3 months (quarterly) to support ongoing collagen production, maintain skin health, and preserve your results long-term.

Pre-Treatment Care

To ensure your skin is in the best condition for treatment and to minimise the risk of complications, please follow these guidelines before your microneedling appointment:

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure, solariums, and fake tan for 2 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Discontinue retinoids (Vitamin A), AHAs, BHAs, exfoliants, and other active skincare products for 3–5 days before your appointment, unless otherwise advised by your clinician.
  • Avoid waxing, laser treatments, chemical peels, or other resurfacing procedures on the treatment area for 1–2 weeks prior.
  • Arrive with clean skin free from makeup where possible.
  • Inform your clinician of any changes to your medical history, medications, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Please advise your clinician if you have a history of cold sores, particularly if the treatment area includes the lips, as preventative antiviral medication may be recommended.
  • Do not attend your appointment if you have an active skin infection, cold sore, sunburn, open wound, or inflamed acne in the treatment area.
  • Stay well hydrated and continue using your prescribed home-care products unless instructed otherwise.

Post-Treatment Care

Microneedling creates thousands of controlled micro-channels within the skin to stimulate collagen production and trigger the body's natural healing response. Proper aftercare is essential for optimal healing and results.

  • Your skin will appear red, similar to mild sunburn, immediately after treatment. You may also experience mild warmth, tightness, sensitivity, or slight swelling. These effects usually settle within 24–48 hours, although some clients may remain slightly pink for a few days.
  • Tiny pinpoint bleeding during treatment is completely normal and usually resolves within minutes.
  • For the first 24 hours, avoid touching the treated area unnecessarily and keep the skin clean. Only use the products recommended by your clinician.
  • Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours, or until your clinician advises it is safe to apply.
  • Avoid active skincare ingredients including retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, Vitamin C serums, exfoliants, and scrubs for approximately 5–7 days, or until the skin has fully recovered.
  • Avoid excessive heat for 48 hours, including hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, vigorous exercise, and swimming pools.
  • Do not pick or exfoliate any dry or flaking skin. Mild dryness or light flaking is a normal part of the healing process.
  • Apply a SPF sunscreen daily and avoid direct sun exposure while your skin is healing.
  • Stay well hydrated and continue using your prescribed post-treatment skincare to support healing and maximise collagen production.
