Teeth Whitening

At Melbourne Skin, we offer a safe, professional teeth whitening treatment designed to brighten your smile and reduce the appearance of stains caused by coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, and everyday lifestyle factors.

Our treatment uses 2% hydrogen peroxide, a gentle yet effective whitening ingredient that works by breaking down stain molecules within the enamel to reveal a whiter, brighter smile without damaging the tooth structure.

The treatment is quick, comfortable, and non-invasive, making it an ideal option for anyone wanting to refresh their smile with minimal sensitivity or downtime. Results vary depending on your natural tooth shade and the type of staining present, with many clients noticing a visibly brighter smile after just one session.

At Melbourne Skin, your treatment is performed in a professional clinical environment, ensuring a safe, comfortable experience while helping you achieve a naturally brighter, more confident smile.

Professional teeth whitening is safe for most people; however, a consultation is required to ensure the treatment is suitable for you.

Teeth whitening may not be suitable if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Are under 18 years of age.
  • Have untreated tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, or oral infections.
  • Have exposed tooth roots, cracked teeth, or significant enamel damage.
  • Have recently had dental surgery or are experiencing tooth pain or sensitivity that has not been assessed by a dentist.
  • Have known allergies or sensitivities to hydrogen peroxide or any of the treatment ingredients.
  • Wear braces or have extensive crowns, veneers, or composite bonding on the front teeth (these restorations will not whiten and may result in uneven colour).

During your consultation, we will discuss your dental history and assess whether professional teeth whitening is appropriate for you. If there are any concerns regarding your oral health, we may recommend seeing your dentist before proceeding with treatment to ensure the safest and best possible outcome.

No. Professional teeth whitening is not considered painful. Most clients find the treatment comfortable and easy to tolerate.

Some people may experience temporary tooth sensitivity during or after the treatment, which is completely normal. This sensitivity is usually mild and resolves within 24–48 hours.

Our 2% hydrogen peroxide whitening system is a gentle formula designed to effectively brighten your smile while minimising discomfort, making it suitable for the majority of clients.

Most clients achieve a noticeably brighter smile after just one treatment. The longevity of your results will depend on your lifestyle, diet, and oral hygiene habits.

For ongoing maintenance, we generally recommend a top-up treatment every 6–12 months, or sooner if you regularly consume coffee, tea, red wine, or smoke, as these can contribute to staining over time.

Maintaining good oral hygiene and limiting stain-causing foods and drinks where possible will help prolong your results. Your clinician will recommend a personalised maintenance schedule based on your goals and the shade you wish to achieve.

Pre-Treatment Care

To achieve the best possible whitening results, please follow these guidelines before your appointment:

  • Brush and floss your teeth thoroughly before attending your appointment.
  • If you are due for a professional dental clean, we recommend having this completed prior to your whitening treatment for optimal results.
  • Ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. If you have tooth pain, untreated decay, gum disease, or an oral infection, please seek dental treatment before whitening.
  • Inform your clinician if you have sensitive teeth, dental restorations (such as crowns, veneers, or bonding), or any changes to your dental or medical history.

Post-Treatment Care

For the first 48 hours after your whitening treatment, your teeth are more susceptible to absorbing stains. Following these instructions will help maximise and prolong your results.

  • Follow a 'White Diet' for 48 hours, avoiding any foods or drinks that may stain your teeth.
  • Avoid coffee, tea, red wine, soft drinks, sports drinks, soy sauce, curry, tomato-based sauces, berries, beetroot, chocolate, and coloured confectionery.
  • Choose light-coloured foods such as chicken, turkey, white fish, rice, pasta, potatoes, cauliflower, plain yoghurt, white cheese, bananas, and water or milk.
  • Avoid smoking or vaping for at least 48 hours, as nicotine and tobacco can quickly stain newly whitened teeth.
  • Brush and floss regularly using a soft toothbrush, and continue to maintain excellent oral hygiene.
  • If you experience temporary sensitivity, this is normal and usually settles within 24–48 hours. Using a toothpaste formulated for sensitive teeth may help if required.

Following these aftercare instructions will help you achieve the brightest possible results and keep your smile looking whiter for longer.
